Manufacturing
Handmade in France
The manufacturing of MiCha lamps is a matter of luxury craftsmanship. About ten different steps are needed to assemble 30 handmade pieces for each model. In order to control each detail, Kuntzel+Deygas have gathered together in France no less than 8 specialised teams of craftsmen that accompany them through the complex process.
The body
To build the body, the original sketch is used as a pattern. Then the shape is laser cut into a thin plate of steel. The steel silhouette is folded, and then painted with a weather and damage-resistant lacquer that was developed for automobile industry. Black was a natural choice for colour to evoke the feeling of a silhouette and enhance the graphic look of the artwork.
The head
The head is very stylised and made out of an aluminium bowl in the centre of which stands another smaller bowl protecting the light bulb and representing the muzzle. The cat’s whiskers are represented by thin tailor-made coils. Thanks to its ball-and-socket joint, the head is articulated and light beam can be slightly adjusted.
The tail
The power cord is very long and reminds us of a cat’s tail, prolonging its spine in an elegant natural curve.
The light
MiCha spreads an ambient kind of light, sophisticated and mysterious.
A dimmer modulates brightness to suite any mood. Moving the head in certain directions creates enticing shadow play on the surrounding walls.
